AstroRealms: Ultimate Galactic Adventure

JOURNEY TO THE STARS

You are the Captain of an expedition into a galaxy nobody has charted. Every star, every world, every first contact is generated for you alone. There is no walkthrough. There is only the map you fill in.

A galaxy that has never been played before

Astro Realms is a new adventure inspired by classic spacefaring games from the golden age of PC gaming — a cockpit, star chart, and universe full of adventure awaiting — rebuilt with the graphics and the science of today. Step in, take the helm, and reach for the stars!

The helmsman’s chair

Fly the ship yourself, or hand the pilot the conn and run the empire. Every control is a real one: throttle, impulse, fold coils, survey scanner, mining robot, customs hails.

Worlds with a name

Worlds are generated from real astrophysics — stellar classes, habitable zones, atmospheres, ice lines — then it is your job to survey the galaxy world by world. Rename anything and everything.

New story each run

Colonies, federations, rival powers, alien worlds, pirates, contraband and first contact turn one galaxy into a campaign. When the run ends, a different seed starts a whole new adventure!

// Procedurally generated universe

Procedurally generated universe to explore

One number seeds everything. Give the generator some digits and it lays out a whole galaxy: spiral arms, a core, clusters, civilisations, life forms, and the quiet places between them. Give it another number and you have never been there before.

// The four Xs, and then some

Explore. Expand. Exploit. Encounter.

◎

Explore

Chart systems, survey worlds, drop a mining robot on a seam, and read the report no one has written yet. Comets, belts, moons and rogue planets are all places, not scenery.

▣

Expand

Found colonies, raise commercial stations and government offices, and watch a settlement become an economy. What you build in a system is drawn on it, for anyone who comes looking.

▲

Exploit

Mine deposits, harvest gas giants, run the trade lanes, and keep an eye on the weigh stations. Contraband is profitable right up until a patrol answers the alert.

✦

Encounter

Twelve civilisations have their own histories, charters and tempers. Diplomacy, trade, aid and war all leave a mark on the record — and the record fills in as you play.

☸

An RPG in the captain’s chair

You are a person, not a cursor. Name your captain, name your hull, carry a crew and a genome, take rare encounters as they come, and keep a ship’s log that reads like a journal. Milestones — first colony, first contact, a first rare find — are written onto your record the year they happen.

♲

A roguelike you can live in for hours

New galaxy, new seed, new story. Builds are landscapes, not loadouts: a run is shaped by where you settle, who you befriend, and what you were brave enough to survey first.

// Real sky, generated sky

Built on real astronomy

Astro Realms takes the sky seriously. Stars are sorted by spectral class, worlds are placed by habitable zone and ice line, and a comet’s tail is drawn from its own coma profile. The images below are real — NASA and ESA observatory photography, from Hubble, Webb, Spitzer and ESO — a Galactic simulation based on real-world statistics and discoveries like trojan asteroids, the Oort cloud, comets and rogue planets.

Pillars of Creation — Hubble, visible light. Multicoloured gas, dark dust, and the glow of stars being born. NASA/ESA/STScI
The Pillars of Creation in near-infrared, Webb
The same pillars, in infrared — Webb sees through the dust to count the newborn stars. NASA/ESA/CSA/STScI
The Cosmic Cliffs of the Carina Nebula, James Webb
Cosmic Cliffs, Carina — Webb. False-colour infrared, mapped so a human eye can read the star-forming edge. NASA/ESA/CSA/STScI

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field
Ultra Deep Field — thousands of galaxies in a patch of apparently empty sky. NASA/ESA/STScI
The Sombrero galaxy, Hubble
Sombrero (M104) — a dust lane seen nearly edge-on, exactly the kind of detail a survey is for. NASA/ESA/STScI
The Horsehead Nebula in infrared, Hubble

The Crab Nebula, Hubble
Crab Nebula — the wreck of a supernova, still expanding. NASA/ESA/STScI
Barred spiral galaxy NGC 1300, Hubble
NGC 1300 — a barred spiral, and a reminder that galaxies have moods. NASA/ESA/STScI
The spiral galaxy Messier 83, Hubble
Messier 83 — a starburst spiral, close enough to read its arms. ESA/Hubble

True colour & false colour

Many kinds of telescope do not see the way you do. Infrared and ultraviolet light is invisible to the eye, so observatories map those wavelengths onto visible hues — false colour, chosen to reveal structure, not to decorate. Where an image is a true composite of visible light, we say so. Astro Realms uses the same honesty: a world’s colour on the chart is the surface it actually has, yet that underlying science is informing how the world has formed, what it's attributes are, and what points of interest it may reveal.
